Clay Shooting

Clay pigeon shooting, formally known as Inanimate Bird Shooting, is the art of shooting at special flying targets, known as clay pigeons or clay targets, with a shotgun.

Clay pigeon shooting has at least 20 different forms of regulated competition called disciplines. These can be roughly divided into three main groups: Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays.

What is Trap?

Trap is where up to five shooters take one shot at each of five targets fired from different positions. The trap in the trap house rotates back and forth in different positions and throws the clays away from the shooter. Doubles is two targets thrown at the same time and you get one shot per target. When shooting trap a round is 25 targets.

Wobble Trap

A variant of standard trap is Wobble Trap. The main differences are a much more extreme target flight path than in standard Trap shooting (the trap oscillates up and down as well as side to side). Our 2 wobble traps are sure to test your skills and a great pre-hunting season warm-up.

What is Skeet?

The basic difference between skeet shooting and trapshooting is that in skeet, most of the targets are crossing targets and in trapshooting, all of the targets are outgoing targets.

What is Sporting Clays?

With its roots coming from England, sporting clays is a shotgun shooting game in which clay pigeons are presented to the shooter in ways that mirror the flight pattern of game birds, or occasionally rabbits, in their natural habitats. The shooting grounds are laid out in stations with each station representing one type of bird or a combination of game; a rabbit and a grouse, for example.

With variations in trap position, trap speed, shooting position, and flight paths of different types of clay pigeons, targets can come through the trees, from under your feet, straight down, over your head, quartering, going away, left to right, right to left, and in any path a real bird might choose. The key words are unpredictable, variable, and sometimes bordering on impossible.
